For patients who are obese and have been diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), a recent trial program demonstrates that individual education regarding the connection between diet and this condition, along with regular physician consultations and a personalized diet, can have a positive impact on the patient’s GERD symptoms. One important finding from the recent TRIM (The Reflux Improvement and Monitoring) program is that patients are more receptive to weight loss goals, including integration of appropriate diets, once the link between such diets and improved GERD symptoms has been demonstrated, as was the case for these trial participants.
